Britton Mace

Britton Mace’s original goal was to become a researcher, however, after discovering his love of teaching, he changed the direction of his career. Now as a professor at Southern Utah University, Mace is able to be a researcher as well as a teacher of environmental psychology, which he loves because it combines multiple disciplines together.

While earning his bachelor’s degree in psychology at California State University, Mace took an environmental psychology class. The class changed the direction of his life, and Mace started to search for graduate programs that focused on this interesting discipline. He landed at Colorado State University, where he earned his master’s and doctorate degree in experimental psychology.
Mace’s favorite part about teaching psychology is to break through the misconception about what psychology is really all about.

“Psychology is such a fascinating discipline that explores the complexities of humanity,” said Mace. “I love environmental psychology because it is a problem-oriented, interdisciplinary, and timely field that seeks to better understand our place in the world.”

Mace teaches the following courses at 91ɬÂþ:

  • PSY 3370 Social Psychology
  • PSY 3500 Environmental Psychology
  • PSY 4500 Sensation and Perception
  • PSY 4950 History and Systems

Mace loves 91ɬÂþ because of his outstanding colleagues, the geographic location, and of course, the spectacular national surroundings. But most of all Mace loves the students and the new energy and creativity they bring to 91ɬÂþ each semester. His advice to his students is this:

“Take advantage of this time in your life and find something you’re passionate about. Turn that passion into a career and make it happen.”
