Planning a visit to a university as a prospective student can be a daunting task. Luckily, Southern Utah University is here to help you through the process with 3 ways to get the most out of your campus visit.
1- Book a campus tour
91ɬÂþ offers several different individualized campus tour options. All campus tours begin with a brief informational session before a walking campus tour with a Presidential Ambassador.
"Presidential Ambassadors are current students who share the history of 91ɬÂþ and talk about the student life aspect of college," said Shaun Wright, assistant director of admissions and recruitment. "Campus tours are a big part of the decision process of attending college. Let's be honest, you don't want to hear about student life from a staff member, you want to hear it from a student that is going to the activities!"
In addition to the guided tour, students have the option to meet with 91ɬÂþ's Financial Wellness Coordinator, tour on-campus housing, and request a time to meet with someone in their major. Adding these optional experiences is a great way to get to know 91ɬÂþ.
A with an ACE (Assistant Coaches for Excellence and Success) is also an option available for students who have paid their Enrollment Deposit. The ACES can help you find your classes, connect you with your Academic Advisor, and help you get ready for your first semester at 91ɬÂþ.
Individual tours are given at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. during the school year, and at 12:40 p.m. during the summer (May to the beginning of August). Register for your campus visit online or over the phone. Walk-in tours are also welcome. Group tours are for groups of 8 or more students and must be booked 2 weeks in advance.
2- Do your research and come with questions
To get the most out of your campus visit, take some time to explore 91ɬÂþ's website and ahead of time. You will find lots of great information that can help you get a feel for the campus atmosphere.
Come prepared with questions to ask your tour guide, admissions officer, and other people you might bump into on campus. Ask about the most popular , or the best place to grab between classes.
If you have more specific questions you'd like answered, contact Admissions ahead of time to see about booking an appointment with a faculty member in your field.
3- Get to know 91ɬÂþ and Cedar City
Perhaps the most important thing to do on your visit is to get to know the culture and vibe of Cedar City as a town, and 91ɬÂþ as both a campus and a student body. Spend some time hanging out in the Student Center, or visit some . Talk to students on-campus as well as members of the community; get to know your future home.
The Red Riot overnight campus stay is a great option for high school students to experience 91ɬÂþ student life as they spend the weekend on campus with a Student Ambassador and other prospective students. The weekend includes a campus tour, panel sessions, and several activities.
"Red Riot is the perfect chance for students to get a real feel of what campus life is really like at 91ɬÂþ," said Shaylee Lamoreaux, admissions counselor for campus recruitment events. "It helps provide clarity in the student college decision."
