1. Polish Your Resume & Cover Letter

Having a strong resume and cover letter is vital to the job search process. Check out the resume and cover letter advice on the Career and Professional Development Center’s website or read through this PDF packet, also from the Career Center, to get started.

2. Search for local student jobs

Cedar City is a college town, so local businesses often have jobs especially suited for college students. One way to learn about these positions is to network with friends, roommates, neighbors, upperclassmen, and the like to see where they have worked. Another way to find a local job is to use Google Maps to locate and contact the businesses you’re interested in.

3. Search 91ɬÂþ’s on-campus job database

Did you know 91ɬÂþ has a job database specifically for student jobs available on-campus? On-campus jobs are great because they work with your schedule, they have a low commute (especially if you live on-campus), and the days off usually align with school breaks and holidays. To search this database, go to my.suu.edu → Apps → T-Bird Campus Jobs or to .

4. Search 91ɬÂþ’s off-campus job database

In addition to 91ɬÂþ’s on-campus job database, 91ɬÂþ also has an off-campus job database. To access the off-campus job database, go to my.suu.edu → Resources → Handshake. Once you’ve reached the landing page, click “Jobs” then search by “Cedar City” in the location field, or “Local Job” in the job title.

5. Utilize the Utah Department of Workforce Services

The helps locals to prepare for and seek out employment. In addition to job and career opportunities, they also have veteran resources, job fairs, and workshops. Their is located at 176 East 200 North.

6. Attend a Career Fair

7. Schedule an Appointment in the Career Center

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or lost in relation to your career, don’t hesitate to reach out to the Career Center for a meeting. Fill out the contact form on their website to get in touch with someone to set up an appointment.

8. Send Your Application/Cover Letter

Sending in your application or cover letter is the next step to the job hunt process. Spend some time on this task to show your potential employers the care you’ll put into your new position. See step #7 for cover letter advice.

9. Prepare for Your Interview

Preparing yourself for the interview beforehand will boost your confidence and the delivery of your answers. Visit the Career Center website for interview tips to get started. Research the company/position, and be ready to ask and answer questions.
