LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network with 300 million members in over 200 countries and territories around the globe. The platform gives users access to people, jobs, news, updates and insights that help them be great at what they do. LinkedIn’s mission is to connect the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful. This is a great next step tool for you and your career, all you have to do is get started.

Get Started on LinkedIn

First, build a strong LinkedIn profile to get noticed. Recruiters and company management can search for people based on their knowledge, skills and previous experience. They can check your employment history to see if you would be a good fit for the organization. Be sure to include all your experience, education and expertise. Your LinkedIn profile is essentially an online resume, so it’s important that it’s detailed, complete and has no errors. Learn how to build your profile as a student.

Build Your Network on LinkedIn

Once you have a profile, start to build your network. By connecting your email address and searching with keywords, you can connect with your contacts and people you have worked or attended school with as well as anyone you know. Updating your network will move you ahead in your career.

Don't forget to get recommendations. Ask the people you connect with on LinkedIn to provide a recommendation on your performance at work or in school. This may be a professor or a previous employer. Supervisors and people hiring for internships will check these out, so don't discount their impact.

Search for Jobs and Internships on LinkedIn

The job search section in LinkedIn will help you discover opportunities and career fields in your location of interest. This is also another great time to utilize your connections. Reaching out with questions can lead you in the right direction.

LinkedIn now makes it easy to apply for a position with an "Easy Apply" button that allows you to upload a cover letter and resume that will go directly to the recruiter. This way if you find an internship that you just can't pass up, you may be able to apply directly through the site. It can also direct you to the company's website, landing you on the page for that specific internship. Some companies will even post the recruiters profile so you can message the person directly with any questions you may have.

Don’t forget to visit the student jobs portal. This has all the entry level job opportunities and internships postings on LinkedIn helping you to take the next step of your career.
