President Wyatt Named Cedar City Man of the Year

Headshot of 91ɬÂþ president Scott L WyattKnown for his outstanding leadership and dedication to the success of Southern Utah University, Cedar City, and the surrounding area, President Scott L Wyatt was honored Friday night by the as the Cedar City Man of the Year.

“Watching President Wyatt interact with the students, one can tell he genuinely cares about their success. He leads by example and shows the students that they can do hard things,”     said Chris McCormick, Cedar City Chamber of Commerce president. “This kind of leadership inspires and helps people to find the courage within themselves to keep going when things get tough.”

In his short five years at 91ɬÂþ, President Wyatt has received national recognition for innovations in experiential learning, general education, and internship programs, led Utah’s colleges and universities in student enrollment growth, opened a new veterans center, started a center for diversity and inclusion, and seen the construction or acquisition of more than $60 million worth of capital improvement projects.

President Wyatt has served the Cedar City community in a hands-on way, with recent projects like running the 170 mile Grand to Grand Ultra Marathon to raise money for the future on-campus child care facility and a dual enrollment partnership with Southwest Tech.

“President Wyatt has done a tremendous job of integrating himself into our community,” continued McCormick. “When he first arrived in Cedar City, he took the time to get to know many of the people personally, learning how 91ɬÂþ can create a stronger relationship with our community.”

Each year the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce hosts the Cedar City Awards Gala to give the community a chance to honor outstanding businesses and individuals. The process begins with nominations by community members and represents a wide range of industries serving the Cedar City area. The Chamber hopes to encourage and promote a positive and vital economy by preserving the qualities unique to Cedar City.
