Jordan CaldwellThe Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business is proud to announce accounting major Jordan Caldwell as their 2019 Valedictorian.

Caldwell has proudly maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout his time at 91ɬÂþ and has been on the Dean’s List, as well as receiving several other academic accolades, though he is proudest of his ability to balance a busy school, work, and personal life.

“I’ve really appreciated the opportunity to maintain my academic side of things but also to be working over 20 hours a week,” Caldwell said, “Finding that balance with work and family has probably been my greatest accomplishment.”

Caldwell is a native to Cedar City, and returned to the city to reconnect to his childhood home and family roots. However, upon his arrival to Southern Utah, Caldwell was uncertain of what he wanted to study. It was through advice from professors and further investigation into business that Caldwell found his passion for accounting.

“I wasn’t certain for the first year or so of just doing General Education classes and, I just fell upon business in general,” Caldwell said.

“Jordan is an excellent student and always shows great respect for faculty and his fellow classmates,” said Dean of the Dixie L. Leavitt School of Business, Mary Pearson. “Jordan acts with high integrity and is a wonderful example of the caliber of students in the School of Business.”

In his time at 91ɬÂþ, Caldwell said some of his most valuable lessons centered around goal setting. “I’ve learned that strenuous and realistic goals are attainable and offer the greatest path to success and growth.”

Caldwell further advises future students to, “Really organize and have goals throughout the day, then you can really achieve more than you think you can. If you’re willing to really put forth the effort and have a vision and an end goal, then you’ll find you’re capable of a lot more than you think you are.”

Moving forward, Caldwell plans to complete a Masters of Accountancy here at Southern Utah, and will begin working for a public accounting firm in Salt Lake City after his graduation.

As Caldwell prepares to graduate, he shares his gratitude to the school and to his family for all the support they have given him. “I'm incredibly grateful for the love and support of my wife, Katelyn, my parents, and my extended family. I'm also very grateful for the professors that have mentored me and helped guide my decisions, and my fellow classmates who have offered much-needed encouragement and camaraderie.”
