91ɬÂþ Student Embarks on a Roaming Adventure

Using skills she’s learned in the classroom, junior communications major, Madi Maynard was able to plan, manage and execute a 3,000 mile road trip with a few close friends. This was no ordinary car ride, the group had five outdoor companies sponsor the adventure, and they created that documented their travels. Jordan, Maynard’s husband, had the initial idea for the trip and from there Maynard began the planning process.
With the help of close friends, the route was established, campgrounds reserved, fuel and food costs estimated and basic itinerary created. To gather sponsorship, the group developed their Instagram account. Maynard wanted to give sponsors an idea of what kind of photos and engagement their products would get. A few outdoor companies were impressed and sent them equipment, gear and food. Geaux Hammock, Trail Foody, Ogden Made, Colab Print and Tentsile were among the sponsors.
Mindy Benson, vice president of alumni & community relations, was a huge inspiration to Maynard. Benson taught Maynard how to budget and anticipate everything.“I know that whatever happens on our adventures ‘nothing is a crisis,’” Maynard said.
The group completed a National Park tour of the Western States. In eight days they visited seven national parks and two state parks, traveled at least 3,072 miles, and ventured through six states. The national parks visited include: Crater Lake, Redwood, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Sequoia, Joshua Tree, and the Grand Canyon. The state parks included: Samuel H. Boardman and Ainsworth.
Maynard said she is prepared for future trips and events because of 91ɬÂþ’s real life experiences in networking and connecting with businesses. Her dream is to travel the world while planning events. She wants to always be living the "University of the Parks" life.
