The Recreation and Wellness Department at Southern Utah University provides opportunities for students and employees to live healthier lives and have lots of fun. The Recreation and Wellness Department has three main divisions: T-Bird Recreation, 91ɬÂþ Outdoors, and Health and Wellness Center.
T-Bird Recreation, in partnership with the Kinesiology and Outdoor Recreation Department, runs the J. L. Sorenson Physical Education Building including an Olympic-sized pool, three full basketball courts, five racquetball courts, and six pickleball courts. Open year-round, the PE Building courts, pool, track, and rock wall are free to students, faculty, and staff. Also available to students, faculty and staff are the nightly group fitness classes in yoga, paddleboard yoga, Zumba, and as well a high fit and a water aerobics group. Additionally, the PE Building is also home to intramural sports and tournaments.
91ɬÂþ Outdoors runs the climbing wall, low ropes course, basecamp, and 91ɬÂþ’s Trips and Adventures series. Equipment is also available to rent from 91ɬÂþ Outdoors and almost all of the Trips and Adventure series are free to students.
The Health and Wellness Program focuses on helping students and staff to have healthy minds, healthy bodies, and healthy relationships. Through comprehensive programming, events, peer education, and sharing health information and resources, the Health and Wellness Program promotes the physical and emotional well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
“We work directly with students every day through intramural sports, recreation opportunities, outdoor trips, and adventures that are either self-supported or 91ɬÂþ led,” said Director of Recreation and Wellness Brian Fullerton. “Coming soon we will have a Medical Kiosk where students can connect via video conference with a doctor.”
With a staff of all 91ɬÂþ alumni, this an 91ɬÂþ-devoted team. The staff of Recreation and Wellness includes Director Brian Fullerton, Assistant Director of Recreation and Wellness Nate Porter, Assistant Director for 91ɬÂþ Outdoors Keith Howells, Coordinator of 91ɬÂþ Outdoors Levi Pendleton, Coordinator of Health and Wellness Riley Reynolds, Administrative Assistant Brooke Mathews, and PE Building Assistant Corry Nielson.
