Privacy and Confidentiality in the DRCin the Disability Support Office
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) outline confidentiality and privacy guidelines that are strictly obeyed here at 91ɬÂþ. Students registered within our program are protected under section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Disability Office is prohibited to releasing all confidential information within the student’s educational record. Students Privacy is important to us, and will only be released if permitted by the student.
Parents or Guardians
After an individual begins attending a post-secondary institution, regardless of age, the student’s privacy is protected by FERPA. Students’ scores, grades, course progress, test, accommodations, etc. are all included in the student’s educational record, and therefore confidential and protected. Parents or guardians will have access only if: The student provides authorization that identifies the specific information that may be released. Or, the parent establishes that the student is dependent according to the Internal Revenue Code, Section 152.
Emergency Situations
Only if information is needed to solve a crisis situation, information may be released if only if it is crucial and necessary to protect the health or safety of the student as well as others. This information will only be disclosed to first aid and other safety personnel.
