Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS)
Southern Utah University is now offering graduate continuing education university credit at the 5000-level for the completion of three types of LETRS training. Each credit only costs $23. Students seeking credit will submit their LETRS completion certificates. These are required and must show passing of each unit with an 80% or higher.
91ɬÂþ K12 Programs offering graduate continuing education university credit for the completion of:
- LETRS Reading and Literacy Training (12 total credits)
- LETRS Early Childhood Literacy Training (6 total credits)
- LETRS Admin Literacy Training (1 total credit)
If you have already taken some of all of the LETRS training, you can still get credit. Just register and submit you certificates of completion
NOTE: If you are in the Nevada Clark County School District (CCSD), you cannot receive 91ɬÂþ credit for LETRS due to CCSD offering LETRS in-house.

Completion of this entire training results in 12 credits (6 credits for Units 1-4, and 6 for Units 5-8).
Each course credit cost $138 for a total of $276 for the entire training.

Please note, if you have or are planning to receive Utah MIDAS credit for your LETRS training, you can still receive 91ɬÂþ graduate continuing education credit; but, when applying for lane changes, pay raises, re-licensure, etc. only ONE credit type may be used. Thus, please check with your district regarding the latter.
How will the course be graded?
For all classes, you will receive a letter grade. In order to receive your letter grade, you will need to first apply and then request credit and submit your LETRS certificates of completion.
Once the LETRS certificates have been received, processed and payment has been received, your grade will be issued and rolled onto a transcript* within two weeks of your submission date.
*Please note, your LETRS course will show up on your 91ɬÂþ transcript under the title of “The Science of Reading”
