Participant Qualifications
- Must attend high school in the State of Utah.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must be a current high school student, graduating summer of 2026.
- Must have a cumulative GPA [grades 9-11] of a 3.75 or higher
Participant Application Checklist
Please carefully follow the steps to make sure your application is complete.
Fill out the Registration Form
Submit an official high school transcript. Must be emailed or mailed in by your high school.
If mailed, please make sure that it says GHA or it will not arrive at the correct office.

*Please make sure that the transcript comes to our email or address with GHA. If it gets sent to our admissions office it will get lost and we will be unable to view it.
In Essay format, answer the following questions
(11pt font, Double-spaced, no more than 3 pages). Please start by listing the question that you are answering.
- What extracurricular event(s) have you been involved with that has had the biggest impact on your life and why?
- Describe a time in your life where you experienced a significant challenge, or failure.
- What did you learn about yourself through facing the situation?
- Describe how your academic achievements, personal strengths and unique perspective(s) will contribute to the Governor’s Honors Academy.
*This essay is your chance to showcase yourself and is left to a lot of interpretation. Your ability to answer the questions thoughtfully and thoroughly is fundamental to your acceptance. Members of the GHA selection committee want to gain insight of who you are and what you will offer the GHA experience. Please note that this essay will be also assessed according to your use of writing conventions.

Once students are selected you will receive one of the three letters in the mail. Acceptance, alternate, or Denial.
