Admission & Portfolio for Art & Design Students
The BA or BS in Art and the BA in Art History have open admission. There are no special requirements for application other than declaring your major.
For BFAs in Studio Arts, which include Ceramics, Illustration, Painting/Drawing/Printmaking, and Photography, as well as the BFAs in Graphic Design, Art Education, and Filmmaking, students must apply at the appropriate time and be accepted into the program.
Filmmaking students can apply December (early application) to April (late application) after their Freshman year. All other Art & Design majors apply during October or March during their Sophomore year. They must be accepted into the program area of their choice to be eligible to graduate with a BFA degree.
Students will receive email notification about their eligibility for application in the semester they have reached 24 credits in ART & ARTH courses. They may also register at the Filmmaking, Art, and Design office ahead of the application deadline.
After submission of the Program Application, the student will receive an email notification detailing the decision made by the review committee within two weeks. Possible outcomes include recommendations to retake specific classes, approval to proceed further in the program, or, in some cases, denial of entrance.
Transfer students within the Filmmaking, Art & Design program are advised to schedule an appointment with the department chair during their first semester at 91ɬÂþ to review work completed at their prior institution and verify that courses have transferred correctly.
