Accept Your Scholarship Financial Aid

First-Year Scholarships

New student scholarships are awarded based on the cumulative unweighted GPA or ACT/SAT score. Students are automatically considered for scholarships when the admissions application is complete before the deadline. There are a limited number of President’s scholarships that will be awarded after a comprehensive review.

  • President's Scholarship awarding will be based upon a comprehensive review process
  • Only one score (GPA or ACT or SAT) is required for all scholarships
  • The score that provides each student the best scholarship is used
  • Minimum 2.3 High School GPA required for scholarships awarded based upon ACT or SAT
  • GPA scale is unweighted (4.00 is highest)
  • ACT and SAT scores DO NOT include the Writing sections of the exams and Superscores are not accepted.
  • Full scholarship renewal information and guidelines are provided with online scholarship acceptance

Deadlines to consider:

  • December 1st: President's Scholarship Admission Deadline
  • Fall Semester: March 1st
  • Spring Semester: November 1st

Please note: Scholarships are only available to students who are attending 91ɬÂþ Main Campus. Students classified as attending 91ɬÂþ Online Campus are not eligible for academic undergraduate or transfer scholarships.

First-Year Scholarships Types

  • $1,500 per semester

  • $2,000 per semester

Are you a non-resident student? Did one or both of your parents graduate from 91ɬÂþ? If so, you may be eligible for the Alumni Legacy Scholarship. To apply, students must:

Be admitted and enrolled as a first time, non-resident student at Southern Utah University.
Have at least one parent who graduated with an associate's degree or higher from Southern Utah University (Southern Utah State College, College of Southern Utah, etc.)


Applicants must also meet the following requirements:

  • 2.8+ GPA -OR-
  • 18+ ACT Score - OR-
  • 960+ SAT Score

Alumni Legacy Scholarships awards are limited and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis. The award is a two-semester non-renewable scholarship of $6,908 per semester for incoming freshmen. This award can not be combined with other institutional scholarships.

Transfer student scholarships are awarded based on the post-high school cumulative GPA of all schools attended. Students are automatically considered for scholarships when the admissions application is complete before the deadline:

  • $2,000 per semester
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    • Transfer GPA of 3.8 or greater required for award

Founder's Transfer Four Semester Renewable Scholarship

More Scholarships

For all undergraduate students who will be attending during the upcoming 2025-26 year.

International scholarships are available to new undergraduate students and can be obtained through the International Admissions Office.

To be considered you must complete the admissions process by May 1st.

Scholarship Housing is a partial housing award redeemable through the Dixie & Anne Leavitt Foundation. If awarded, the scholarship will cover 75% of your rent and you will be responsible for the remaining 25%. The amount of the rent and scholarship will not be known until you have been assigned an apartment by Leavitt Land. Applications for scholarship housing are accepted online starting November 1st. The final deadline is February 1st. Please direct any questions or concerns to the 91ɬÂþ Financial Aid office at scholarshiphousing@suu.edu or 435-586-7715.

Submit an application for the 2025-26 year.

Some organizations offer educational funding which must be filtered through our office if you are receiving federal aid. Organizations that offer such funds may be (but are not limited to) the following: high schools, churches, employers, clubs to which you or your parents belong (Rotary, Elks, Daughters of the American Revolution, etc.), organizations for which you have done volunteer work, and possible future employers.

You may also seek private scholarships through web sites such as  or .

DO NOT PAY FOR ASSISTANCE IN FINDING SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL AID.

Deferments

Students can defer paying the enrollment deposit or, if taking an approved leave of absence, defer scholarships to use for future semesters.

Appeals

The scholarship appeal process allows students to appeal a decision regarding their institutional scholarship. The appeal process provides an opportunity for students to explain extenuating circumstances that contributed to missed deadlines or failure to meet GPA requirements. This appeal cannot be used for scholarship housing or general scholarships.

DACA

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) states that undocumented students attending institutions of higher education in the state of Utah are required to pay out-of-state tuition. However, House Bill 144 allows qualifying students to attend Utah universities and colleges by paying in-state tuition despite not having Utah residency status.
