AHEC Program provides resources for students, parents, teacher and counselors to encourage more rural youth to pursue careers in health care and to assist them in achieving their training goals.  Resources and links provided here include student interest inventories, directory of training programs and information on many health-related jobs.

Training Health Professions Students

Clinical training opportunities for students enrolled in health professions training programs are readily available in most of the rural Utah counties.  The Center will assist students in finding a preceptor, lodging and other logistics while performing the clinical rotation.

Continuing education programs are available through the Center or through one of our many partners. The Center is a member of the Utah Department of Health's Education Advisory Committee and works in close partnership with the Utah Telehealth Network and the county-wide Utah State University Extension Offices.

The Utah AHEC Program: Southern Utah AHEC

What Is Southern Utah AHEC?

  • One of three regional center offices for the Utah Area Health Education Centers Program (Utah AHEC)
  • Hosted at Southern Utah University, with satellite offices at Utah Tech University and Snow College
  • Iron, Washington, Beaver, Kane, and Garfield counties come first. Following them are Juab, Duchesne, Daggett, Uintah, Carbon, Sanpete, Millard, Sevier, Emery, Grand, Piute, Wayne, and San Juan

Southern Utah AHEC Services:

In coordination with the Utah AHEC Program Office, the Southern Utah AHEC Regional Center improves the primary care workforce by:

  • Facilitating over 150 rural rotations annually for health professions students
  • Sponsors the Utah Health Scholars program with over 1,000 students to increase their opportunities at preparation for graduate/health training programs at 4 rural higher ed institutions
  • Produce and distribute “Utah Directory of Health Training Programs”
  • Provide high school students opportunities to explore health careers and understand requirements
  • Host 3R Net – a national job board for rural health care positions

The Utah Psychology Internship Consortium's mission (UT-PIC) is to prepare, train, and retain high-quality culturally competent psychologists to provide behavioral health care for the rural and underserved people of Utah. The Utah Psychology Internship Consortium (UT-PIC) represents the collaborative effort of multiple agencies – Intermountain Health, Valley Behavioral Health, Southwest Behavioral Health Center, Utah Tech University, and Solstice Counseling & Wellness - to share resources and faculty for the purpose of providing a diversified educational program for psychology interns. Training takes place at up to six training sites across Utah.
