Growing Collections

Although not on public display, strengths of the nearly 2,000-object permanent collection include several works by famed Western artist Maynard Dixon, important regional women artists Eve Drewelowe and Edith Hamlin, and a comprehensive collection of work by Jimmie F. Jones that exemplifies his notable career in the region. Within SUMA’s holdings is an especially robust collection of prints that includes well-known artists such as Marc Chagall, James McNeill Whistler, Kawase Hasui, Thomas Hart Benton, and Käthe Kollwitz, among others. A number of gifts and acquisitions have focused on photography, such as Brett Weston, Gary Edward Adams, and a portfolio called DE | MARCATION: A Survey of Contemporary Photography in Utah

If you are interested in our collection for scholarly purposes and would like more information about artwork or artists within our collection, please contact us by email at sumacollections@suu.edu. Access SUMA's Collection

We are working on making SUMA’s permanent collection accessible to the public. Currently, we have a few curated exhibitions available online for you to explore. These include works by Jimmie Jones and Brett Weston, as well as student-curated exhibitions. You can access this online database through the  or at SUMA on the kiosk in the Jimmie F. Campus Loan Collection Request

If you have an office on campus, you can request the installation of a work of art during one of SUMA’s open request periods. Please note that these requests will be reviewed by the SUMA Collections staff, and eligibility is not guaranteed. Certain environmental conditions must be met for the artwork to be loaned, and the final decision is at the discretion of the Collections staff.

Additionally, new requests for artwork installation in campus offices will not be accepted outside of these designated periods. However, you are welcome to contact SUMA at sumacollections@suu.edu at any time if you would like to request the relocation or removal of a borrowed artwork.

The next request period for the Campus Loan Program will open on January 21, 2025 at 9 a.mm and will close on January 25, 2025 at 5 p.m. There are limited options so it is first come, first served. Mark your calendars and set your reminders!
